Homestead Exemption

By making New Iberia your new home, you will also be able to take advantage of Louisiana's homestead exemption.

The $75,000 of the assessed value of your home and property are exempted from property taxes (as long as they own the home and live in it. If you are a homeowner who is 65 years of age or older, and your adjusted income is less than $65,655 (amount goes up a little every year), the Louisiana Constitution provides a special assessment level of that property for the first year you qualify. The special assessment remains on the property as long as you or your surviving spouse remains eligible and applies  for the benefit.
